Innovative sand mixing installation for De Hoop Bouwgrondstoffen

Deprez designed and built a new sand mixing installation for De Hoop Bouwgrondstoffen in Terneuzen (NL).
This new installation not only offers a significantly higher capacity, but also enables the future processing of new, circular raw materials.
"That Deprez offers a complete package from concept to realization, and responded quickly and flexibly to our additional requirements, is a source of great satisfaction," says Chris De Vries, Head of Sand-Gravel Operations.

Who is De Hoop?
De Hoop Bouwgrondstoffen is part of De Hoop Terneuzen and is a supplier of bulk raw materials for hydraulic engineering, road construction, airports, railways, recreation, and the concrete industry.
“This new installation is intended for that last sector. We produce one of the ingredients of concrete, namely fine aggregate: concrete sand. The composition of this concrete sand differs from customer to customer.
Our two old sand mixing installations had reached the end of their technical life, so we started looking for a manufacturer for a new installation. It had to align with our philosophy. We've been in business since 1911, we think long-term, and our products and installations must be durable and built to last.
We knew that Deprez has been supplying our sector for decades, and several sources confirmed their solid reputation." (read more below the photo)

Capacity
“We wanted more than just a replacement of the existing installation. In the past, we had two separate mixing installations, both producing concrete sand—one for loading trucks and the other for loading ships.
We were looking for a solution that could combine both functions into one installation. Additionally, we wanted to increase the capacity. The old installation for ships could handle 400 tons per hour, but often suffered from breakdowns. Processing a ship of up to 3,000 tons could take an entire day.

With the new installation, which can handle 700 tons per hour, we can now load or unload such a ship in just half a day.
Another benefit is that we can now mix three different types of sand in even more precise and smaller quantities.
The design is also future-oriented. While we currently mainly use rounded sand, river sand, and fine sea sand, in the future we want to mix more angular types of sand.
That could negatively affect the flow in the installation, but Deprez immediately understood the issue and quickly came up with an appropriate solution.
Finally, the installation is built to last for decades. We often work with salty sea sand, which corrodes metal. Thanks to a good coating, Deprez ensures the installation is optimally protected." (read more below the photo)

Deprez’s Approach
“From the very first moment, we felt that Deprez took us seriously. They responded quickly to all our wishes. Shortly after the project started, we came up with the idea to add a sampling point to the installation. That too was well designed and implemented.
And even after delivery, they stayed committed to the project. A few minor issues were resolved quickly and effectively.
In addition to the full-service approach from concept to realization, good after-sales service is also important to us. That’s why we signed a service contract with Deprez, allowing them to solve any issues remotely or on-site.
Fortunately, we haven't had any real problems in the past year and a half.” (laughs)
